Kahlil Gibran (1883–1931) was a Lebanese-American poet, philosopher, and artist, best known for his literary works, particularly "The Prophet." He was born on January 6, 1883, in Bsharri, a town in the Mount Lebanon Mutasarrifate, part of the Ottoman Empire (now in modern-day Lebanon).
